Inmate Community Service Program
The Sullivan County Department of Corrections has developed a community
service program which allows inmates an opportunity to give back to the
community while at the same time supporting the department's "restorative
justice initiative" of making a contribution to society. Inmate Community Service
crews are available to assist not for profit organizations, towns and city
municipalities with light maintenance, landscaping, and emergency services where
there is an immediate need for labor caused by disasters. As of May, 1
2007 the department has provided over 600 man hours to the local towns and
municipalities.
Benefits!
- The program alleviates boredom and tension within the jail, resulting in
a safer environment for both staff and inmates.
- Provides needed services to the communities and municipalities within
Sullivan County.
- Helps prepare inmates for integration back into the community as a
law-abiding citizen.
