Our MissionIt is the mission of the Sullivan County Department of Corrections to protect the public, offer offenders the opportunity for self-improvement, and to promote staff education and development. We will accomplish this mission with Integrity, Respect, and Professionalism while respecting the rights of the victim and recognizing the potential and dignity inherent in the human spirit.
County ProfileSullivan County is located in the West Central area of New Hampshire. The County was named after Brigadier General John Sullivan, a Revolutionary war hero in the late 1700's. Previously part of Cheshire County, Sullivan County was established in 1827 with Newport as its current county seat. The County consists of 528 square miles and includes fourteen towns and one city*: Acworth, Charlestown, Claremont*, Cornish, Croydon, Goshen, Grantham, Langdon, Lempster, Newport, Plainfield, Springfield, Sunapee, Unity, and Washington. The County population is approximately 40,255. The Department of Corrections, located on the County Complex in Unity, New Hampshire is responsible for the care, custody, and control of adult offenders. The Department of Corrections consists of a jail, house of corrections, and transitional housing unit providing pretrial incarceration and post-trial incarceration for male and female offenders.
