Staff Training and Development

In 2004, the Sullivan County Department of Corrections made significant changes to the existing officer training program. 

In 2006, the following goals were achieved:

  • New Officers receive approximately 500 hours of training within their first year.
  • Each officer receives a minimum of 80 hours of training per year.
  • Annual Training needs assessment
  • Annual Training Calendar consisting of a minimum of 80 hours of training:

  • CPR, First Aid and Automatic Defibrillation           
  • Fire Safety, Prevention and suppression
  • Inmate Discipline Procedures
  • Handcuffing
  • Straight Baton
  • Defensive Tactics
  • Oleoresin Capsicum Spray
  • Suicide Prevention
  • Managing Stress
  • Human Relations
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
