Black Ash Basket-weaving
Sunday, July 17, 2022
Learn about the process and craft of basket-weaving from members of the Ko'asek (Co'wasuck) Traditional Band of the Sovereign Abenaki Nation.
Native Americans and early settlers used baskets to carry or store everyday items. Basket weaving was a skill passed down from one generation to the next. Now only a handful of people possess this knowledge. Join us as local Abenaki people demonstrate this amazing skill and share their knowledge about the process. The demonstration will be ongoing from 11am-2pm and begin with a ceremonial blessing. Other activities will include log pounding, paper weaving, and black ash identification. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
